A new boy in town

There's a new boy in town and his name is Jeff Tatsuro! This comer is a second year nursing student and he's starring in his first movie entitled Parisukat with veteran sexy actor Toffee Calma. Now, if it's a movie with Toffee Calma, expect some hot and provocative action [and scenes]. In fact, Filipino-Japanese Jeff Tatsuro has reportedly four scenes in the flick involving the male genitalia - visually shocking and unsettling, as it is. Parisukat, directed by Jonison Fontanos under Phylum Productions, will be shown in February 2010.

BAGUHANG INDIE ACTOR, HAWIG NI KRISTA RANILLO!

By Ryan Maestra

Sana nga e mapansin at magkaroon pa ng projects after this,” natatawang sambit ng binatilyo.

Ang “Parisukat” ay written and directed by Jonison Fontanos.

Indie film: Parisukat

A film of crime, passion, and social awareness involving a nursing student, a discreet bisexual, a beautiful transvestite, a deaf houseboy, a goodlooking hustler, and a sexually active young man. Their lives and characteres are intertwined by a murder set in an old spanish house.

Newcomer Filipino-Japanese model Jeff Tatsuro played the role of Marcus, a runaway young man who got himself enmeshed in an unresolved murder case. Although this is his first film of Jeff gave a good performance together with sexy actor Toffee calma.

You should watch the steamy hot bed scenes of Toffee with Jeff as well as with other characters. Plus, you shouldn't miss the frontal nudity of two newcomers if permitted by the reviewers of MTRCB.

Aside from Toffee and Jeff cast includes Christopher Canizares sole winner of Mr. Pogi 2004 of the longest running noontime show "Eat Bulaga", and actors from indiefilm "Hugot" Jobben Bello, Alvin Espinosa, and Darwin Taylo.

“Parisukat”, Bagong Indie Gay Film ni Toffee Calma!

By Krema Latikera

Indie film: Campus crush

The campus in question is an alternate universe where everyone is gay. The students wear pink and yellow uniforms and organize events such as “Equality Week”. Strip away the whimsy, and the school operates as in any other teen flick: There are friendships, betrayals, unrequited loves, and everyone is trying to get into each other’s pants. The jocks do it for the bragging rights, as when the swim team make bets on shagging the biggest losers in campus, while the rich offer iPods in exchange for fellatio in the showers.

That’s the subversive challenge of the movie Campus Crush: In the great power struggle, whether you have It or not has little to do with gender. So why do people in the real world make an issue of homosexuality, when the driving factors are usually beauty, wealth, confidence, values (or the lack of it) -- everything but gender?

Arjay Carreon is the brooding, well-to-do alpha male with a sensitive side, while Joeffrey Javier is the poor, bad-postured nerd who’s a romantic idealist, and the two charismatic actors have incredible chemistry. In a showboating role as the flamboyant best friend, Chamyto is a blast of unpredictable comic energy.

Writer-Director-Producer Crisaldo Vicente Pablo, who helms the afternoon TV teen series Lipgloss, at the same time heads the direct-to-video line of gay erotica Queeriosity Video Project, has scored a mash-up of both. Campus Crush is a gay fantasy sex movie young comedy romance! Beat that. Yet the film also doesn’t escape the limitations of each genre, embracing even the shortcuts and unpolished craftsmanship. That makes it feel slighter than it ought to be, but it’s a lot of fun.

Michael Manansala in National Costume

Now on its 4th year, the Mister International 2009 is happening on December 19 at the Plaza Interational Hotel in Taichung, Taiwan where 33 candidates vie for the title.

Felix Roco

A scion of a local cinema legend Bembol Roco and an up-and-coming heartthrob in Pinoy showbiz, 20-year-old Felix Roco makes a mark with his internationally acclaimed performance in the Venice Film Festival double-awardee Engkwentro.

Indie: Walang Hanggang Paalam

The quietly elegant Walang Hanggang Paalam spent the year floating in limbo with an X-rating from the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB). In the version that's finally allowed in theaters, we can vaguely make out the shadows behind the ban: The 16-year old girl (Lovi Poe) is too young to be running away with her boyfriend (Joem Bascon), whose sole mission is to claim her virginity, then cavort with a dying Japanese gentleman (Jacky Woo). They're all the while trailed by a private investigator (Jake Roxas) in a cruel gay relationship (with Rico Barrera). Oh, there's also incest, and in the X'ed original, an ejaculation scene, supposedly. Despite the elegiac mood, a potent sensuality curdles, and boo to the MTRCB for failing to see that this is what makes it a worthy piece of cinema.

At its best, Paalam plays like a tone poem, especially when intercutting between its lonesome characters -- such as in the opening where everyone shaves or clips hairs from their faces or bodies, then later, in their respective prison-like hotel rooms in the chilly mountains of Baguio. In short, the movie works best when the humans must be no more than symbolic pretty elements in deliberately composed tableaus. Filmmakers Paolo Villaluna and Ellen Ramos (Selda, Ilusyon) have finally found a subject that matches their fetishistic photography of still objects: Existentially troubled individuals who are no more alive or dead than the fog or the sunlight through the glass.

When they must interact, however, the movie thuds. It becomes clear as we watch that the characters possess only one dimension each. I'm convinced Jake Roxas was given a bad boyfriend just so he can spend the entire movie moping. And so with Jacky Woo and cancer. Joem Bascon, in case we miss that he's supposed to be horny, keeps thrusting his hips and pushing his girlfriend to do it. It's hard to see what else is in him that made him her prince. Lovi Poe, who's meant to connect and seduce and break free, only has layers of girlishness. It's telling that her boat ride with the older man is a bonding moment drowned out in music and impressionistic close-ups. Where there should have been drama, there's poses. I'd hate to think they're mere zombies awaiting their fates to arrive with the twist ending, but that's what they are.

Brillante Mendoza's "Lola" wins best feature film at Dubai IFF 2009

28 prizes presented for acting and cinematic excellence
The sixth edition of Dubai International Film Festival concluded on Wednesday night with a glittering award ceremony that honoured the finest acting and cinematic talent from the Arab world, Asia and Africa at the Muhr Arab and Muhr AsiaAfrica awards.
In all, 28 prizes were distributed for excellence in acting, cinematography, editing, music and scriptwriting in addition to the jury general excellence awards. The entries were from more than 62 nations across Asia, Africa, the Americas, Australia and Europe in three categories -documentaries, short films and feature films.
DIFF received more than 900 entries from the Arab world, Asia and Africa for over US$575,000 in prize money, in addition to the acclaim of a prestigious international jury. The Muhr Arab competition, open to directors of Arab nationality or origin, drew around 437 entries, while the Muhr AsiaAfrica competition, currently in its second year, received over 513 entries.
DIFF Artistic Director Masoud Amralla Al Ali said the strong participation of films, documentaries and shorts for the Muhr Arab and Muhr AsiaAfrica awards was matched by impressive creativity and technical finesse. "The increased participation and the quality of participating films underscores the fact that DIFF has helped drive regional talent in cinema, offering filmmakers in the Arab world, Asia and Africa a definitive platform to showcase their creativity."
The winners of `Movies in Motion,' an innovative pan-Arab talent contest for budding filmmakers in the Middle East organised by MBC, were also awarded. The third prize winner was Diab Ghazi; the second prize went to Dani Hasecic and the first prize was won by Mohammed Al Badri. Ouail Mohammed won the People's Choice Award in the 2-minute movie competition that received 550 entries.
DIFF 2009 has partnered with the Human Rights Film Network a partnership of human rights film festivals around the world. Established in Prague in 2004, the Network promotes exchange, communication and collaboration regarding the representation of human rights issues in moving pictures. Merzak Allouache for HARRAGAS (Algeria) won the inaugural DIFF Human Rights Film Network Award, selected from 10 movies that best depicted the human rights themes.
The International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI), the foremost body of film writers, academics and critics from over 60 countries, presents the annual `Prize of the International Critics' for Arab films screened at DIFF. The winner of the award for the best feature film in the Muhr Awards for Excellence in Arab Cinema goes to Merzak Allouache for HARRAGAS (Algeria) for its complexity in depicting one of the most serious human problems of the Third World: The emigration. This year FIPRESCI also introduces an award for best shorts in Muhr Arab Awards, which was clinched by Mohammad Aldhahri for SHROUQ/GHROUB (SUNRISE/SUNSET) (Saudi Arabia) for its simple strong style and courageous approach of the undercurrent problems that a young boy facing in our society.
The People Choice Award for 2009 was clinched by Zeina Daccache for the documentary 12 Angry Lebanese.
Emirati talent was highlighted at DIFF when three awards were presented at the closing ceremony. The prize for Best Emirati talent went to Mohammed Hassan Ahmad; the Most Promising Emirati female filmmaker was Manal Bin Amro and Most Promising Emirati filmmaker was Nawaf Al Janahi.
Muhr AsiaAfrica Feature Jury Chairman Bahman Farmanara said: "Judging is not an easy process, especially in art, where creativity is defined by the artists' personal discretions and considerations. But it becomes immensely difficult, and I must say very pleasing, when the quality of films selected by the organizers of the festival is outstanding. Then the whole process becomes rewarding."
He added: "This was what my fellow jury members, Manisha Koirala, , Jean-Micheal Frodon, Keith Shiri, Noureddin Lakhmari and I experienced when evaluating the Muhr AsiaAfrica short-list. The quality of works was extremely encouraging and prompts us to look forward to watching good, powerful films emerge from these two territories in the future."
Muhr AsiaAfrica Documentaries Jury Chairman Budhadeb Dasgupta said: "The films shown in the competition section of Muhr AsiaAfrica Documentary Awards represented varied cultures of different countries of contemporary relevance. It was not easy for us to find the best three from amongst the twelve films addressing different issues, starting from challenges faced by man to political problems."
"The Muhr Arab documentary jury thanks the Dubai International Film Festival and all participating filmmakers for the unique opportunity to watch such a wide and interesting range of films from the Arab world," said Jury Chairman Omar Amiralay. "The films had powerful themes of immediate and topical importance. Yet, they often lacked true cinematic treatment and a well-rounded perspective – two key facets that are extremely important to deliver compelling documentaries. "
He added: "Some films were indeed passionate about their themes. There was a sincere effort and true determination to bring about change and reform but we believe that only a genuinely artistic engagement can deliver an engaging, moving and powerful film experience."

Billy Bush
Named as one of Esquire magazine's "10 Men," Billy Bush is the co-anchor of "Access Hollywood," the daily entertainment newsmagazine going into in its 14th season of providing the most comprehensive coverage of entertainment news and personalities on television. Bush joined the program as East Coast correspondent in December 2001, and was promoted to co-anchor in June 2004. In 2007, Bush hosted the popular NBC talent competition show "Grease - You're the One That I Want" and the network's remake of the classic "Let's Make a Deal." Through his role at "Access Hollywood," Bush has covered countless high-profile red carpet events including the Golden Globes, Grammys, and Academy Awards as well as hosted ABC's live pre-show for the 2004, 2005 and 2006 Academy Awards and "2006 Emmy Red Carpet Special." In addition, he reported for NBC at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Greece, hosted "Access Hollywood's" coverage of the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino and the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. Bush also hosted the Miss USA and Miss Universe competitions in 2003, 2004, 2005 and most recently 2009. Bush began his career hosting the afternoon radio drive show on WLKZ-FM in New Hampshire, later moving to Washington, D.C., where he hosted the midday show on WARW-FM. In March of 1997, Bush brought his award-winning talent for entertainment and humor to WWZZ-FM (Z104) in D.C., as host of "Billy Bush and the Bush League Morning Show," which aired until January 2001. Before joining "Access Hollywood," Bush was a correspondent for WNBC-TV's "Today in New York" morning show.

Bush returned to his roots in April 2008 with the launch of "The Billy Bush Show," a nationally syndicated talk and music radio show with Westwood One, which he and "Access Hollywood" Executive Producer Rob Silverstein co-produce. The show, which airs evenings Monday-Friday, focuses on the top entertainment stories and personalities in the news and features celebrity guests and listener calls. "Billy Bush's Weekend Countdown" is also on the airwaves, counting down the week's top 30 songs in a four-hour segment. In addition to radio, Westwood One is home to Billy Bush's official website, BillyBushShow.com, a fully interactive digital space offering a host of features surrounding the show, including: premium services and live streams, hands-on fan interaction through listener blogs, exclusive audio content and podcasts to download, and more.

Although Bush maintains a busy work schedule, he regularly makes time for philanthropic endeavors. He has served on Operation Smile's Board of Governors for over four years, a non-profit organization whose mission is to repair childhood facial deformities, while building public and private partnerships that advocate for sustainable healthcare systems for children and families. In addition, Bush also proudly serves on the Board of Directors for the Lollipop Theater Network, a non-profit organization that arranges private screenings of newly released movies for children suffering from debilitating illnesses. These children are usually confined to hospitals or other secluded environments, preventing them from going to movie theaters.

Bush earned a bachelor's degree in international studies and government at Colby College in Maine, where he was a two-time captain of the men's lacrosse team. He resides in Los Angeles with his wife, Sydney, and their three daughters.
Claudia Jordan
TV supermodel and host Claudia Jordan will co-host the 2009 Miss Universe Pageant for NBC on August 23rd! Recently one of the stars of "The Celebrity Apprentice," where she competed for the NAPSAC Foundation, television fans will also recognize this beautiful gal as model #1 from "Deal or No Deal."

After moving to Los Angeles from Rhode Island, Jordan became a model on "The Price Is Right." She went on to co-host a TV show with Carmen Electra called "Livin' Large" and she was one of the co-hosts for the E! Style Network's "Modern Girl's Guide to Life." Jordan also worked as a correspondent for "The Best Damn Sports Show" and "5.4.3.2.1." She also worked with Entertainment Tonight for the NFL Super Bowl Media Day. In 2009 she will appear with Luke Wilson in the film "Middleman."

Jordan started her career in the spotlight as Miss Teen Rhode Island and later competed in Miss Teen USA. As an adult, she won Miss Rhode Island USA and competed in the Miss USA Pageant. It was only the third time in 46 years that someone from Rhode Island made the top ten. East Providence named May 16th "Claudia Jordan Day."

Besides competing in pageants, Jordan was an impressive sprinter and earned all-state honors in track and field. She competed in several Junior Olympics and in college became an All-American sprinter in the 400-meter relay. Jordan is also fluent in Italian -- her mother being a first generation Italian immigrant.
